Old men don't die, old hearts do.

 

Our bones may become brittle ⁠꒰ an anticipated aftermath of our earthly existence ⁠꒱ but our souls don't break. Our skeletal system is a petite house our souls rent to visit earth. I do not believe in reincarnation for I think the soul should be too bored with living on earth. Our lives here is too short and unrealistic. I do not know why it might want to come back. Well, to Picasso's art “The Old Guitarist - 1903” I find the most perfect description of the soul taking hold of the heart, the arms and the complete body of the old man. Vividly his body was unwilling but his soul was willing and the body was lured into obedience. 




The way his head ducks at the tune and the calm sitting of his frail white fingers on the guitar I tell myself, if a willing soul can move the fingers to play a guitar, it can tame death certainly. If at all you shall die, or become very old in body and mind you shall first decide in your soul. “The retired Soldier" - a digital art created by Jekphrasa on November 30, 2025 paints an old man who seems to mourn his retirement, he's sober a complete opposite of the “Old guitarist - 1903” by Picasso.




 For his sad state, it is clear his soul itself is retired and has come to acceptance of the end - death. Viktor Frankl said “The soul that has lost its meaning has already begun to perish.” I agree because the soul is the power house of the heart. The retired soldier mourns his former state, his agility and he is dying. That is safe to conclude.

Red roses, Red Christmas (an immigrant's documentary) - fiction

 “ I shall pass”  that was the last line of the poem the lanky latin guy in a red jacket read. His hands twitched on the microphone’s stand like he meant every single breath in those words. He tapped repeatedly with his shoes on the red carpet. The carpet was dusty, I saw it puff brown wipsy slingshots under his shoes. He stopped reading, the audience clapped. I only bit the edge of my lips, stunned by the bold expression of extreme sorrow on his face which the audience didn't see or refused to see.
